2023 - 2024 ACADEMIC HYBRID PODS
LOWER ELEMENTARY HYBRID

TK-Kinder-First Cohort
This cohort enjoys a developmentally appropriate, experiential learning environment designed to nurture the social, emotional, and academic needs of our younger students. This cohort is perfect for kindergarten or younger 1st grade students who are seeking a more play-based approach to learning. It is also a great option for students opting for a year of "Transitional Kindergarten" (summer birthday/bonus year). Academics will be fluidly blended into exciting and relevant unit studies that offer an array of hands-on, project-based learning experiences designed to stimulate creativity and cooperative learning while integrating the core subjects of language arts, math, science, social studies, art, and more! We use more formal programs for reading and math to ensure students have a solid foundation in these skills. We use a multi-sensory Orton-Gillingham approach to teaching beginning reading and writing to ensure students are ready to jump into reading in 1st grade and Math Made Fun for math concepts. Students will enjoy a variety activities each day, including morning meeting, crafts, art, stories, music and movement, author and illustrator studies, writing and book-making, science experiments, sensory activities, and so much more! Families in all pods are welcome to join our "2nd Friday Family Field Trips" where we venture offsite to local venues such as a museum, nature center, play space, farm, etc. Please see the calendar for specific dates.

LOWER ELEMENTARY HYBRID

Primary Cohort (1st - 3rd)
In our primary program, students take deep dives into engaging, cross-curricular thematic units that excite and inspire learners! We have curated a unique "ELAISS" program (English Language Arts Integrated with Science and Social Studies", which allows us to offer a thematic approach to learning that focuses on concept exploration and includes "living" books, hands-on experiences, science labs, writer's workshops, cooking, art, crafts, projects, and more. To ensure students become strong and effecitve readers and writers, we use a multi-sensory Orton-Gillingham based approach to teaching reading and spelling. In addition, our engaging primary math program teaches math skills through a mix of games, center acitivities, hands-on experiences, and purposeful practice pages. Our mixed-age approach allows students to truly find their place in this learning community and allows flexibility with both academic progression and supported recovery as needed. Students will love making friends while learning about their world and the people within it. From people and places, to myths and fairy tales, to habitats and ecosystems, students will love our creatively curated program! Families in all pods are welcome to join our "2nd Friday Family Field Trips" where we venture offsite to local venues such as a museum, nature center, play space, farm, etc. Please see the calendar for specific dates.

UPPER ELEMENTARY HYBRID

4th - 6th Cohort
Our upper elementary program offers students a step forward in their academic journey. Our philosophy to academics at this age is "quality over quantity.' Many programs emphasize heavy work loads and excessive rigor, leading to stress, anxiety and burnout. Our program carefully ties both conceptual learning with skill development to ensure we fulfill the standards, while providing meaningful and engaging assignments that appropriately challenge students, building not only strong academics, but confidence and self-esteem. Targeted skill development in grammar, reading, and spelling is fostered through intentional programming using an Orton-Gillingham based approach and other carefully selected curriculum which allows us to indivdualize expectations and work load for each child. Our unique, program-curated "ELAISS" method (English Language Arts Integrated with Social Studies and Science) opens deep learning opportunties as concepts in Social Studies and Science drives topical learning and serves as a springboard for meaningful skill application in ELA. Families in all pods are welcome to join our "2nd Friday Family Field Trips" where we venture offsite to local venues such as a museum, nature center, play space, farm, etc. Please see the calendar for specific dates.

MIDDLE SCHOOL HYBRID

6th - 8th Cohort
Personal changes and challenges abound within this unique age-group, which is why, for many students, a small, supportive, community-oriented environment better supports overall academic development and mental health than a traditional setting. Without the external pressures of huge classrooms, endless homework, and all too often, bullying, our students experience boosts in the confidence and self-esteem needed to be successful learners throughout the middle school years. Our middle school program focuses on the core values of character, community, collaboration, and conservation. Academically, we meet students where they are, tailoring each student's expectations and work load to meet their personal challenge point and allowing them options for acceleration or recovery. Flexible seating, engaging instruction, hands-on learning, and ample social and enrichment opportunitiies make learning pleasant and...dare we say...enjoyable!

2023 - 2024 PROJECT BASED LEARNING CLASSES
Our academic enrichment classes use Project Based Learning and the 5E Model to engage students in learning!
What is Project Based Learning (PBL)?
PBL is a student-centered teaching method that allows students to explore real-world problems, ideas, and concepts in a hands-on, investigative manner. Through each unit, teachers skillfully integrate reading, writing, art, scientific exploration, and outdoor exploration. The 5E Model of instruction in science challenges students to hone-in on key ideas and scientific phenomenon using five student-driven methods of inquiry: Engage, Explore, Explain, Elaborate, Evaluate.
Thematic Learning

Engage & Explore!
K - 3rd Grade
In this engaging and hands-on project-based class, students will take deep dives into a variety of concepts and themes such as world cultures, animals and habitats, fantasy and fairy tales, medieval times, community and conservation, gardens and planting, and so much more! Literature, writing, art, cooking, social studies, and science will be interwoven into each unit! Students will enjoy a balanced schedule that includes teacher-guided activities, group work, hands-on learning, outdoor exploration, and of course, time to socialize!

SCIENCE & ART

FULL STEAM AHEAD
K - 3rd & 4th - 8th
We are taking things "full STEAM ahead" in these science-focused classes! What do 5 E's, STEM Challenges, Inquiry Labs, and an "Escape Room" all have in common? They are all part of our Full STEAM Ahead curriculum! Using the 5E Model of instruction (Engage, Explore, Explain, Elaborate, Evaluate), students will take deep dives into scientific investigations that go beyond the traditional school text book. As a group, they will investigate anchoring phenomenon in life, physical, and earth science concepts. They will participate in exciting labs and STEM challenges, get a little crazy in the kitchen (or maybe outdoors!), and will need to complete an "escape room" review to demonstrate their competency in the subject at hand!
Mondays - 12:30 - 2:45 (4th - 8th)
Tuesdays - 9:00 - 11:45 (K - 3rd)
Open to hybrid and
non-hybrid students.
Writing

Ink & Quill
4th - 8th Grade
Sharpen your "IQ"...your "Ink and Quill," that is! This engaging class is designed for students who enjoy writing and want to explore both the "art" and technique of skillful writing! Students will build technical writing skills by honing structural fluency and gramatical proficiency, while expressing personal voice and creativity. Students will also explore the "art" of writing through an introduction to cursive, calligraphy, and even scrapbook journaling. In honor of the class name - they will even make their own quill! Students will work on a variety of formal and informal compositions, including paragraphs (narrative, expository, compare/contrast, opinion), essays, poems, letters, journal articles, and more. Mini-lessons in grammar (sentence structure, parts of speech), widening vocabulary, using graphic organizers, and working through the writing process, will enhance your student's writing ability to ensure success in high school and beyond. Note: Completion of weekly assignments (~30-60 mins) is an expectation in this class.
