Young Explorers Co-Op

Teacher-Guided, Parent-Supported

Our Young Explorers Co-op is a joyful, family-centered program where parents and children learn side by side through hands-on experiences, meaningful connections, and plenty of play. Guided by an experienced early childhood educator, each morning is filled with engaging themes, nature exploration, stories, art projects, sensory activities, and outdoor adventures designed to spark curiosity and creativity. In a relaxed, welcoming environment, children build confidence, develop social skills, and foster a love of learning while families enjoy community and shared discovery together.

TEACHER-GUIDED, PARENT-SUPPORTED

Our co-op combines the expertise of a teacher with the involvement of families. The teacher plans the themes, learning activities, and overall structure of each session, ensuring consistency, accountability, and fidelity to sound early childhood learning practices. Parents play an active supporting role by helping lead stations, assisting with activities, sharing talents and resources, and contributing to the vibrant community that makes the co-op special. Together, families and the teacher create a rich, engaging learning experience that balances structure with flexibility.

DAILY RHYTHM

Our mornings follow a gentle rhythm that balances teacher-guided learning with plenty of time for exploration and play. Children move naturally between structured experiences such as circle time, stories, themed activities, art, and nature exploration, and open-ended opportunities for free play, discovery, and social interaction. This ebb and flow creates a calm, engaging environment where children can learn, create, move, and connect at their own pace while still benefiting from a thoughtfully planned day. The result is a morning that feels both purposeful and joyful, blending meaningful learning with the wonder and freedom of childhood.

THEME-INSPIRED LEARNING

Theme-inspired learning brings early childhood education to life through engaging, hands-on topics that spark curiosity and imagination. Throughout the year, children may explore themes such as seasons and weather, animals and their habitats, community helpers, the five senses, plants and gardening, space and the wider world, and favorite stories and fairy tales. Each theme is woven into stories, art, movement, and outdoor play so children can make meaningful connections across experiences while building language, understanding, and a natural love of learning.

PROCESS OVER PRODUCT

Child-inspired learning emphasizes the process over the final product, giving children space to explore, create, and discover freely. Through process-oriented art, nature exploration, and sensory activities, children are encouraged to experiment, make choices, and follow their curiosity. Instead of focusing on a “finished” result, the value is in the thinking, problem-solving, and creativity that happens along the way. This approach builds confidence, independence, and a love of learning as children discover that there are many ways to engage with an idea.

Curiosity Club

Bringing the 3 "C's" to Life - Curiosity, Creativity, Critical Thinking!

Curiosity Club is a lively, theme-inspired morning where children explore ideas through hands-on learning across literature, art, cooking, STEM, games, and free play. Each session is designed to spark wonder and keep kids actively engaged as they read stories, create projects, experiment, move, and play. With a balance of structured activities and open exploration, Curiosity Club encourages children to ask questions, try new things, and make connections across different areas of learning in a fun, relaxed environment.

SOCIAL SETTING, INTIMATE GROUP SIZES

This program offers a low student-to-teacher ratio within a warm, social, and intimate learning environment. Small class sizes allow the teacher to guide learning intentionally while still giving each child meaningful attention and space to participate. Students benefit from structured, engaging experiences while also having consistent opportunities to connect, collaborate, and build friendships with their peers. This balance creates a supportive community where children feel confident, engaged, and excited to learn together.

DAILY RHYTHM

Each morning includes two focused, theme-filled learning blocks that guide children through engaging, hands-on activities. In between, students enjoy an outdoor snack and play break that allows time to move, connect, and recharge. The morning concludes with a social lunch followed by extended free play, giving children space to relax, socialize, and fully enjoy unstructured time in a natural setting.

ENGAGING THEMES

Fun Themes bring learning to life through imaginative, hands-on topics that capture children’s curiosity and excitement. From dinosaurs and ancient worlds to outer space and beyond, each theme invites children into a new adventure filled with stories, creative projects, STEM exploration, art, movement, and play. These engaging topics help children build knowledge, vocabulary, and confidence while keeping learning joyful, memorable, and full of wonder.

DYNAMIC LEARNING

Dynamic learning brings ideas to life through hands-on experiences that make learning meaningful and memorable. In a dinosaur theme, children might dig for “fossil” bones, study tracks, and explore prehistoric life through storytelling and movement. In a cooking theme, they measure, mix, and create simple recipes while practicing math and following directions. Across art, STEM, and sensory activities, each theme connects learning in an engaging, interactive way that helps children learn by doing, exploring, and creating.

Fridays at Weatherstone Academy (3rd Grade+)

Friday Quests (Enrichment)

Real World. Real Skills. Real Tools. Are You Ready for the Challenge?

Fridays are built differently at Weatherstone Academy! Students dive into three dynamic skill-building quests for one power-packed day of learning and fun. Each quest features monthly concept units, giving students time to explore deeply, sharpen their skills, and discover new interests. From hands-on challenges to creative projects and real-world problem-solving, every Friday is an opportunity to grow, experiment, and level up.

OUTDOOR PURSUITS

Craft, construct, create, and conquer! Pitch a tent, build a lean-to, craft your own fishing line or bow and arrow, fashion a stretcher from a tarp and logs, or test your skills in Capture the Flag! Venture Quest equips you with hands-on skills for outdoor adventure, survival, and real-world problem-solving.

LIFE LAUNCH

We’re taking home-economics into the 21st century! Learn hands-on life skills that actually matter: create a budget, cook a meal, bake a cake, create task-lists, learn fire safety, test out cleaning hacks, and tackle real-world challenges. Life Launch gives students the practical skills, confidence, and problem-solving experience they need to thrive—in school, at home, and beyond.

CREATIVE QUEST

Dive into hands-on projects across film, art, sculpture, drama, improv, storytelling, design, and more. Students experiment, innovate, and express themselves while developing real-world problem-solving skills, confidence, and the power to bring their ideas to life.

EURKEKA!

EUREKA! is a STEM class where children think like inventors and builders as they explore how things work and how to solve real-world problems. Through construction challenges, simple engineering projects, experiments, and creative design tasks, students are encouraged to build, test, redesign, and improve their ideas.

PICK-A-PATH WORKSHOPS

Afternoons are all about personal interests, socialization, and community! Students can attend a guided skills workshop, join a board game in the community room, start a club, create a masterpiece in the maker space, test your construction skills in our wood shop, build a fort, go fishing, or even try their hand at archery!

CHARACTER QUEST (CQ)

As part of our Friday Quests, students also participate in Character Quest (CQ) —a weekly time dedicated to growing strong hearts as well as strong minds. They practice teamwork, develop leadership skills, and learn the value of serving others through acts of volunteering and citizenship. These experiences help students build confidence, empathy, kindness, perseverance, and a deep sense of purpose within their community.
