LEARNING SUPPORT

Curriculum Designed for Success * Tiered-Rigor * Accommodations & Modifications * Tutoring & Remediation

We’re proud to offer a nurturing environment that effectively supports both neurotypical students and those with mild, non-behavioral learning challenges, such as anxiety, dyslexia, dysgraphia, dyscalculia, and slower processing speeds. Many of these students experience what we call “silent learning challenges”—difficulties that may not be obvious on the surface but deeply affect confidence, pace, and performance. These students often want to fully participate in the mainstream classroom experience, and with the right support, they absolutely can. Our staff is trained to recognize these subtle needs and respond with compassion, flexibility, and evidence-based strategies that promote both learning and self-esteem. Through thoughtful grouping, integrated accommodations, and a school culture built on dignity and understanding, we ensure that every student feels seen, capable, and empowered to succeed—without stigma or unnecessary pressure.

**We are not equipped to handle students with disruptive, aggressive, or behavioral challenges.**

Progression-Based
Math & Reading

We meet students where they are and focus on progress over perfection. We use a progression-based academic model for math and reading and an experiential  project-based approach for Science and Social Studies.

While our math and reading programs align to Georgia’s Standards for Excellence, our progression-based model meets students exactly where they are, allowing students to learn to mastery at a pace that fits their needs.

To accomplish this, we first group students into age bands: Primary (K–3), Elementary (3–5), Intermediate (4–6), Middle (6–8), and High School (8+). Within each band, we then create skill-based academic cohorts for math and ELA. Students are placed in the cohort that best matches their current knowledge, skills, and emotional readiness.

For example, a 4th grader working at a 5th-grade math level will join the 5th-grade math cohort. A 3rd grader who needs more time with 2nd-grade concepts will join the 2nd-grade cohort for that class.

This structure ensures every child receives instruction and rigor that fit just right. By blending academic bands with individualized placement, we support diverse learners, build confidence, reduce anxiety, and help every student grow and thrive.

We use a project-based approach in science and social studies, therefore students are placed in their homeroom band for these subjects.

Built-In
Accommodations

Accommodations in the form of support or added rigor are naturally integrated into every subject, so all students can feel successful. Our engaging, hands-on, and multisensory approach combines evidence-based instructional strategies such as the Orton Gillingham approach for reading with a balanced and achievable workload tailored to each learner. We incorporate tiered-rigor scaffolds, flexible pacing, and targeted interventions to help students build mastery, confidence, and independence. We avoid the "red-pen" approach, offering progression-based reporting and teacher-reviewed assignments without the pressure of traditional grades. These strategies benefit ALL learners. By embedding these strategies into everyday instruction, every child can fully access the curriculum, stay motivated, and experience success in a way that feels natural and encouraging.

Middle / High

Our curriculum is naturally dyslexia-friendly, offering a strong mix of discussion-based learning, teacher-directed lessons, multimodal projects (art, slide shows, visual projects, etc.), reading, and videos. Beginning in 6th grade, students reading below grade level are offered supportive technology—such as voice-to-text, typing, and calculators—to ensure full access to grade-level learning. Starting in 7th grade, families have the option to receive progression-based reports OR traditional grades.

Additional support or intervention opportunities are available at an added cost to those who have not received specialized remediation.

We welcome students with non-behavioral academic learning challenges, including struggling readers and writers, students with dyslexia, dysgraphia, dyscalculia, processing differences, mild inattentive ADD, executive functioning needs, or those with learning gaps due to academic exposure (school avoidance, low attendance, etc.).

For students whose academic abilities fall outside the appropriate band for their age group in ELA and/or math, we offer small, specialized learning cohorts that use an individualized progression track rather than age-based standards. Our approach is relaxed and individualized, focusing on progress over rigid remediation, which helps students avoid frustration and anxiety. This structure allows students with significant gaps to receive targeted instruction, build foundational skills, and progress at their own pace, gaining both confidence and mastery at a pace that works for them.

Since all academics are structured in small-group settings (1:6 ratio) students in specialized cohorts never feel "different." All students within academic age bands enjoy homeroom and project-based learning in science and social studies together and remain an active part of the broader community during breaks and enrichment.

Families desiring rapid remediation will be offered individualized remediation opportunities through private tutoring.

Learning at EdVentures

EdVentures is geared to sweet, creative, and on-level students desiring a smaller, fun, and relaxed environment and to students with mild, non-behavioral learning challenges such as dyslexia, dysgraphia, and processing disorders. During academic blocks, we bundle students with similar learning profiles to ensure each student receives the appropriate level of challenge. We believe in mastery over testing - therefore - we use a 'teacher reviewed' approach on all assignments rather than a graded or red pen approach. This program is excellent who love a creative and engaging environment, thrive in a smaller environment, or for those with mild to moderate anxiety.

Learning at Weatherstone Academy

Weatherstone Academy serves both on-level students seeking an engaging, relaxed academic environment and those with mild, non-behavioral learning challenges such as dyslexia, dysgraphia, and processing disorders. During academic blocks, students are grouped by similar learning profiles to ensure instruction is appropriately paced and targeted. In addition to our STEM-focused curriculum, we emphasize the development of executive functioning and organizational skills to prepare students for increasing academic independence.

In addition, we our ELA curriculum includes remediation-style instruction in writing that is structured, sequential, and explicit—designed to support struggling writers in building foundational skills with confidence. For students pursuing an accredited transcript in 8th grade and above, work is graded, and our educators work collaboratively with families to implement strengths-based grading solutions that honor each learner’s unique abilities.

Learning at LEAP

LEAP is thoughtfully designed for motivated and astute students who thrive on challenge and creativity. These learners often love reading, deep-dive projects, critical thinking, and the arts, and they bring curiosity and drive to their academic journey. LEAP serves a diverse group of high-potential students—whether they are neurotypical, gifted, accelerated, or twice exceptional—with a program that values both intellectual depth and creative expression. The environment is also highly supportive of students with anxiety, offering a calm, respectful atmosphere where learners feel safe, understood, and encouraged to grow at their own pace. While students should enter as fluent, confident readers, we provide targeted support in math for those who need it. With engaging instruction, project-based learning, and integrated arts, LEAP offers a rich academic experience tailored to students who are not only capable—but excited—to dig in, create, and explore.

Naturally Integrated Support

We naturally integrate support into everything we do—through a fun and engaging curriculum, a relaxed, low-pressure approach, and plenty of movement and extended breaks in our beautiful greenspace. This balance helps students feel calm, focused, and ready to learn, while ensuring that academic support is part of the daily rhythm. In addition, we offer specific supports to further accommodate students who need extra challenges or targeted help, making sure every learner is met right where they are.

Our approach is relaxed, multi-sensory, and FUN!

Learning at our school is joyful and engaging. We believe students thrive when they feel safe, seen, and excited to learn. Our stress-reduced models incorporate hands-on activities, movement, visuals, storytelling, and creative expression to help lessons stick—making learning fun while also building academic confidence. While some worksheets are used for purposeful practice, our primary delivery is through meaningful learning experiences.

Letting kids be kids through breaks, movement, and play!

Students enjoy extended recess and lunch breaks in our inviting greenspace, giving them time to move, breathe, and reset. This unstructured outdoor time isn’t just fun—it’s essential. Research shows that regular breaks in nature improve focus, reduce stress, and boost overall well-being. By building in generous time for play and connection, we help students return to the classroom refreshed, regulated, and ready to learn. It’s a simple but powerful way we support whole-child learning for every student.

Big learning in small groups!

With a 1:6 teacher-to-student ratio, our small class sizes allow for truly personalized learning. Teachers can build strong relationships, closely monitor progress, and adapt instruction to meet each child’s needs. This kind of individual attention helps students feel seen, supported, and confident—creating a learning environment where everyone can thrive. Small groups also encourage more meaningful participation, deeper discussions, and a stronger sense of community within the classroom.

Orton-Gillingham (OG) Approach to Reading Instruction

We use the Orton-Gillingham approach, a research-based, structured, and multisensory method proven to support students with dyslexia and other reading challenges. This phonics-based approach teaches students how to decode, spell, and read with confidence by engaging multiple senses—visual, auditory, and kinesthetic—throughout instruction.

Ability-based grouping in reading and math

Instead of sorting students strictly by grade level, we group them based on current skill level in reading and math. This allows each student to receive instruction that truly matches where they are—ensuring they’re supported if they need review, or challenged if they’re ready to move ahead. These flexible groups help prevent frustration and boredom, and allow teachers to tailor lessons more effectively.

Tiered-rigor assignments to meet students at their personal challenge point

Our assignments are designed with multiple levels of rigor, so every student can work at a level that stretches them appropriately. We offer “essential” versions of tasks for those building foundational skills, and “challenge” extensions for students who are ready to go deeper. This approach keeps all students engaged and progressing at a healthy, individualized pace.

Balance, flexibility, and connection—your way to learn

Our flexible hybrid programming is designed to meet students where they are—academically, emotionally, socially, and personally. We offer a full 5-day option for students who thrive in a vibrant, social learning environment and love the daily rhythm of in-person connection. For those who need a little more space to manage anxiety, decompress, or reduce stress, we offer hybrid options that allow for a mix of on-campus and at-home learning. This flexibility not only supports mental and emotional well-being, but also gives students time to pursue personal interests and passions, helping them stay balanced, motivated, and engaged. Whether fully on campus or blending both settings, our program is built to support the whole student—nurturing both academic growth and personal wellness.

No grades until middle or high school

To promote a love of learning and reduce unnecessary pressure, we do not assign grades until high school. Instead, we focus on mastery, growth, and meaningful feedback, allowing students to build confidence, develop resilience, and truly understand what they’re learning—without the fear of failure.

Integrated accommodations

Accommodations like extended time, reduced workloads, and modified pacing are seamlessly built into our daily classroom structure—not tacked on or treated as exceptions. This integrated support model ensures students who need accommodations don’t feel singled out and can access their learning with dignity and ease.
