Weatherstone Academy offers a comprehensive education and enrichment program designed for students in 4th grade through high school who thrive in a balanced, relaxed, and supportive setting. Our students thrive in social structures, but enjoy smaller class sizes in an environment that meets them where they are academically. We offer on-level academics with built-in accommodations for both added rigor and academic support. We also offer learning support cohorts for individualized learning. Our progression-based approach in math and reading allows students to work at a pace that supports their personal challenge point, while our experiential-based approach in science and social studies provides meaningful and engaging experiences that capture interest and inspire critical thinking. Our solid academic programming provides students with the courses and credits needed to build a strong college-ready transcript or prepare them for their desired postsecondary goals.

Our students are driven, curious, creative, and engaged. Whether your child needs general instruction, mild accommodations, or individualized academic support in reading and/or math, our core courses and evidence-based support strategies strengthen academic foundations—all in a way that sparks curiosity, builds confidence, and sets students up for success now and into the future.
Oh - and did we mention that our students LOVE coming to class each day?!?

SUBJECT DESCRIPTIONS
Comprehensive Reading & Language Arts
ELA: Pillars of Literacy
Phonics, Vocabulary, Morphology
The Pillars of Literacy component of our ELA program provides the foundation for strong reading and writing skils. Through explicit instruction, students develop skills in decoding, vocabulary, spelling, and grammar. Students also study morphology, including prefixes, suffixes, and Greek and Latin roots, to better understand and build complex words. Together, these pillars support accurate reading, strong comprehension, and clear writing.
ELA: Critical Reading
Informative & Literary Texts
In this class component, students take a deep dive into carelfully selected stories, novels, poetry, and informative text selections to uncover how language, structure, and perspective shape meaning. They learn to read with curiosity and discernment—asking questions, finding patterns, and discovering connections between texts and real life. Discussions and projects help students strengthen comprehension, analysis, and expressive writing skills, building both confidence and insight as readers and thinkers.
ELA: Writing & Composition
Our explicit and structured writing program guides students step by step in developing clear and effective writing. Beginning with strong sentence construction, students progress to paragraphs and ultimately full essays, learning how to organize ideas, use proper grammar, and communicate with clarity. The program combines direct instruction, modeling, and guided practice, giving students the tools and confidence to express their thoughts confidently in writing.

Our math program supports students at every level—from rebuilding foundational skills in basic operations to mastering advanced concepts through Algebra 2 and beyond.
Upon entering our program, students will be assessed for math proficiency levels and then placed in the appropriate math course that meets their needs. Students working below pre-algebra, including those in 6th grade, will receive teacher-curated instruction and coursework to fill in gaps and learn necessary concepts to advance forward to pre-algebra.

Using the Denison Algebra curriculum, students progress at their own pace through a structured, step-by-step sequence that ensures true comprehension before moving forward. A blend of online learning, hands-on practice, and individualized teacher support helps learners strengthen problem-solving skills, fill gaps, and gain confidence in their mathematical understanding. Beginning in 8th grade, students may earn high school credits as they advance through Algebra 1 and upper-level courses. Students are encouraged to take advanced math courses through Dual Enrollment.
